The new Church campus was built to fit its rural Chester County surroundings using local materials such as fieldstone.  The project included the Sanctuary, fellowship hall, an administrative building, and the education building.  The four buildings created a protected interior courtyard.  Photo Credit: Don Pearse Photographers

St. Joseph’s University Chapel Arch Repairs
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Years of exposure to the elements and termite activity led to significant deterioration of several of the main wood arches that supported the roof of Christ Chapel.  During Phase 1, structural investigations and evaluations were conducted by A. W. Lookup Corporation, and a structural condition report was prepared and submitted to St. Joseph’s University.  During Phase 2, A. W. Lookup served as the Prime Professional to the Owner and engaged an architectural firm to handle the architectural aspects of the repairs.  Computer modeling of the structure was conducted and designs were prepared for the needed repairs.  Exposed wood members were treated to limit further deterioration, and the structural integrity was restored by installation of steel plates forming a box around damaged members.  Architectural finishes were then restored and the repairs completed within the Owner’s required time frame.

Seventh United Presbyterian Church Truss Repairs
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Water infiltration damaged the end of a main roof truss at the 100 plus year old former Seventh Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia.  The rot in the end of the wood truss was severe enough to cause the truss to drop several inches.  Our work involved surveying the existing structure, designing new removable truss members to allow temporary support of the truss and new truss reinforcement.  Once supported, the masonry pocket was repaired and steel side plates installed to re-construct the rotted portion of the truss.  The truss reinforcement was painted, and with the temporary truss members and support scaffolding removed, the repair was un-obtrusive yet cost effective.
